Brahmavidya Nagar (Chitradurga): A defence research development unit will be set up in 4,290 acres near Varavu in Challakere taluka, announced chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

At a convention of Uppar community, he said even the Indian Institute of Science has sought 1,750 acres to set up research centres in Challakere taluk.

[Note: The DRDO and IISc centres are located at a distance of 35 kms from the property at Hiriyur. The setting up of these two centres in this taluk will have a positive effect in the development of this region, thus paving the way for other development activities to take place here.]
